What can you expect when you dial into the 100 pounder meeting?

First of all: Relax. There’s nothing to be nervous about. You will be welcomed by a caring group of like-minded people. You willl find you are not alone anymore. Everyone at the meeting knows where you’re coming from regarding food. We have experienced the same feelings, cravings and attitudes with food.  You are not alone anymore! Further more this is a community that cares about you!

At this meeting you will find members who have or need to lose 100 pounds or more. However, many people attend this meetings because of the great recovery and experience shared by those in recovery.

Here’s what happens at a typical 100 Pounder Meeting:

First, dial in at 712-432-5200 and when prompted use 4285115# as the pin number. Set aside an hour for this meeting. Consider this “your” time.  Get yourself settled in  with the group to enjoy a recovered speaker.  Then, after a few announcements,  there will be a time when you may leave your first name,  last name initial and your phone number, if you would like for people to give you an outreach call. Get your pencil ready because sponsors and people with recovery will give their phone  numbers. If you miss the number, you can ask it to be repeated at the end of tjr meeting You may call them any time after the meeting.  Members will then share their experience, strength and hope.  Participate as much or as little as you want. You are welcome to share, but you don’t have to. If you have questions, you can talk with individual members after the meeting. Telephone numbers are shared,  so anyone  may build a network of support.

Congratulations—you completed your first 100 Pounder telephone meeting!

But, wait. What about the weigh-in? What about paying a membership fee? There’s none of that. When people become members, they often voluntarily contribute, but it’s never required. We promise.

So, to recap, at OA there’s …

  • No weigh-in
  • No membership fee
  • No judgment
  • No religion (we’re a spiritual group)
  • A safe place for everyone (all genders, races, ages, sexual orientations, sizes)
  • A program that works
  • Hope
  • …and there are people who will understand.

If you’re still not ready to try a meeting, listen to one of our podcasts, or visit the menu items and explore our website for more information.
